Eco-points and compensation areas
District of Ostallgäu
Immediately available eco-points from officially recognised eco-accounts. greeNature is your full-service partner for compensation according to BayKompV in Ostallgäu, from the Lech plains to the Allgäuer Alps.
The District of Ostallgäu at a glance
Ostallgäu district lies in the south of the Swabian administrative region and extends from the Lech and Wertach plains south of Augsburg to the Allgäuer Alps on the border with Austria. The district seat is Marktoberdorf, the independent city of Kaufbeuren is surrounded by the district area.
The landscape is structured from north to south into three zones: the Iller-Lech gravel plains and Lech-Wertach plains, shaped by glaciers, the hilly pre-Alpine moor and moraine land around Marktoberdorf and Auerberg, and the Northern Limestone Alps with Hochplatte (2,082 m) in the Royal Corner. This altitude stratification creates a mosaic of gravel fields, peat soils and Alpine limestone sites.
Ecologically distinctive are the Lech and Wertach floodplains with their FFH habitats, the extensive calcareous lowland moors and wetland meadows of the pre-Alpine region as well as the Forggensee as an important roosting and feeding water for migratory and waterfowl. The Ammergau Alps near Schwangau and Halblech rank among Bavaria's most species-rich natural regions.
Economically, industry (AGCO Fendt in Marktoberdorf, ALPINA in Buchloe) combines with strong tourism in the Royal Corner around the royal castles and pronounced dairy farming in grassland. Business extensions, transport projects and settlement development regularly trigger compensation requirements according to BayKompV in the district.

✅ greeNature on the ground
greeNature operates as a full-service partner across Bavaria and manages compensation projects also in the Swabian Allgäu. We know the nature conservation requirements in the pre-Alpine region, coordination with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority in Marktoberdorf and the regional land potential in moor, floodplain and grassland locations.
Typical measures in the district of Ostallgäu
Moorland restoration
Rewetting of drained lowland and transition moors in the pre-Alpine region, raising water levels and removing drainage ditches. These measures combine compensation with climate protection through carbon sequestration.
Wetland and wet grassland meadows
Extensification and management of species-rich wet and wetland meadows in moor and floodplain locations, habitat for meadow-breeding birds, butterflies and rare orchids. Adapted mowing according to BayKompV.
Lech and Wertach floodplain restoration
Revitalisation of riverbank areas, gravel banks and oxbows along the Lech and Wertach, creation of spawning and breeding habitats for fish, amphibians and gravel-breeding birds.
Species protection CEF/FCS
Advanced compensation measures according to § 44 BNatSchG, such as amphibian spawning waters, bat roosts, lizard habitats on rail and gravel surfaces and replacement habitats for meadow-breeding birds, tailored to the respective project.
Hedgerows and habitat network
Creation of hedgerows, field woodlands and calcareous grassland in the open arable land of northern Ostallgäu, stepping-stone habitats for field birds, wild bees and brown hare between the gravel plains.
Site-appropriate mountain forest
Conversion and new afforestation towards climate-resilient, site-appropriate mixed forests in the foothills, improving water retention, protective function and habitat quality.
Protected species in the Allgäuer Pre-Alps and Royal Corner
Northern lapwing and meadow-breeding birds
In the wet meadows and floodplains of the Lech and Wertach, northern lapwing, whinchat and other meadow birds breed. Extensification and adapted mowing regimes are typical compensation and CEF measures.
About this species ›Amphibians of moor and floodplain waters
Tree frog, yellow-bellied toad and great crested newt inhabit peat bogs, wetland meadow ditches and floodplain waters. Newly created spawning waters are among the most common compensation measures in the pre-Alpine region.
About this species ›Bats in the pre-Alpine region
Large mouse-eared bat, common pipistrelle and other species use forests, traditional orchards and building roosts as hunting and nursery roosts. Bat boxes and hunting habitats are typical FCS measures.
About this species ›Kingfisher on the Lech and Wertach
Near-natural steep banks and riverbank erosion on the rivers provide the kingfisher with breeding sites. Steep bank modelling and securing water dynamics are effective compensation approaches.
About this species ›Skylark of the open landscape
The skylark breeds on the gravel plains and arable land of northern Ostallgäu. Skylark patches, wildflower strips and hedgerows improve breeding habitat in the denuded open land.
About this species ›Sand lizard
Railway embankments, gravel and fallow land are core habitats of the sand lizard. In infrastructure and commercial projects, replacement habitats with sunbathing sites and shelter structures are a typical goal.
About this species ›Which projects trigger a compensation obligation?
Industry and commerce
Extensions of large employers such as AGCO Fendt in Marktoberdorf and ALPINA in Buchloe as well as new business areas generate substantial compensation requirements. greeNature provides suitable eco-points and manages land.
Infrastructure and transport
Expansion of the B12, bypasses, bridge structures over the Lech and Wertach and measures on the rail route trigger compensation and replacement obligations according to BayKompV.
Tourism and settlement
Tourism in the Royal Corner around Füssen and Schwangau as well as residential and accommodation projects require nature conservation compensation, often in sensitive floodplain and moorland locations.
Energy and renewable energy
Photovoltaic ground-mounted systems on gravel plains and measures in hydropower along the Lech and Forggensee require compensation and species protection CEF measures.
