Eco-points and compensation areas
City of Augsburg
Immediately available eco-points from officially recognised eco-accounts for projects in the city of Augsburg. greeNature solutions is your full-service partner for nature conservation compensation according to BayKompV in the Lech-Wertach area, from needs analysis through land provision to permanent management.
The City of Augsburg at a glance
Augsburg is an independent city in the Swabian administrative region and lies at the confluence of Lech and Wertach. On around 147 km² of city area, approximately 300,000 people live, distributed across 42 city districts. In terms of natural regions, the city area belongs to the BfN natural region D64 (Danau-Iller-Lech-Platten).
Distinctive are the glacial gravel plains and the valleys of the Lech and Wertach with their riparian woodlands. On the nutrient-poor gravel soils, the Lech valley heaths with light pine forests and calcareous grasslands have survived, a refuge for numerous warmth-loving and light-dependent species.
Of outstanding importance is the Augsburg City Forest nature reserve with around 2,160 hectares, one of the largest non-alpine protected areas in Swabia and part of the Natura 2000 network (FFH). It is home to over 3,000 animal and plant species and is one of Bavaria's most species-rich areas.
Economically, Augsburg has transformed from a historic textile city to a location for mechanical engineering, aerospace, robotics and lightweight construction. Housing construction on conversion land, the innovation park and infrastructure projects regularly generate compensation requirements according to BayKompV in the densely built city area.

✅ greeNature on the ground
greeNature is active in the Swabian Lech-Wertach area as a partner for nature conservation compensation. We secure suitable areas in the city and surrounding area, develop natural region-typical enhancements in natural region D64 and undertake permanent management and monitoring. Project developers, builders and the city administration thus receive BayKompV-compliant eco-points from one source, without having to organise land, implementation and long-term care themselves.
Typical measures in the city of Augsburg
Water body restoration
Near-natural transformation of sections on the Lech, Wertach and inner-city streams, creation of gravel banks, shallow water zones and structured banks as habitat for kingfisher, fish and floodplain species.
Land unsealing
Decommissioning and unsealing of industrial derelict land and conversion areas, conversion of sealed areas into permeable, green areas with connection to the urban habitat network.
Lech heathland management
Conservation and restoration of Lech valley heaths, light pine forests and calcareous grasslands through shrub removal, mowing and grazing, to secure warmth-loving species.
Grassland extensification
Conversion of intensively used areas in the peri-urban surrounding area into species-rich meadows, upgrading for meadow-breeding birds, butterflies and wild bees along the Lech and Wertach.
Species protection CEF/FCS
Advanced compensation measures (CEF) for sand lizard, bats and other planning-relevant species, such as reptile habitats and replacement roosts, coordinated according to BayKompV and § 44 BNatSchG.
Hedgerows and habitat network
Creation of hedgerows, field woodlands and traditional orchards to network the city forest, Lech floodplains and surrounding areas, stepping-stone habitats for field birds and small mammals.
Protected species in the Lech-Wertach area
Sand lizard
The Lech valley heaths, railway embankments and ruderal areas in the city are important habitats for the sand lizard. In construction and conversion projects, it is one of the most common planning-relevant species for which advanced CEF replacement habitats are created.
About this species ›Kingfisher
The kingfisher breeds on the Lech, Wertach and near-natural city streams in riverbank erosion. Restored steep banks and structured banks are typical measures to promote it.
About this species ›Bats
The city forest rich in old and dead wood and the riparian woodlands on the Lech and Wertach provide numerous bat species with hunting and roost habitat. Loss of building roosts is compensated through replacement roosts.
About this species ›Northern lapwing
The northern lapwing occurs as a meadow-breeding bird on open areas of the Lech heaths and in the agriculturally used surrounding area. Extensification and rewetting of damp depressions promote its populations.
About this species ›Amphibians
Yellow-bellied toad, great crested newt and other amphibians live in floodplain waters, pools and former extraction sites. Newly created small water bodies are proven compensation measures in the Lech-Wertach area.
About this species ›Skylark
The open heathland and arable areas on the city fringe are habitat for the skylark. Field margins, skylark patches and extensive grassland management secure its breeding sites.
About this species ›Which projects trigger a compensation obligation?
Housing and conversion
Augsburg is developing large residential building areas, including the new Haunstetten Südwest district and former barracks and conversion sites (Reese, Sheridan) and the textile quarter. Such projects regularly trigger compensation and replacement obligations according to BayKompV.
Innovation park and commerce
The Augsburg Innovation Park with focal points in lightweight construction and robotics, as well as other commercial and industrial areas, generate compensation requirements. greeNature provides naturally appropriate eco-points for this purpose.
Transport and infrastructure
Expansion of the tram network, measures at Augsburg railway junction and road and bridge projects on the B17 and in the city road network lead to impacts that must be compensated under nature conservation law.
Energy and water and waste management
Expansion of water, energy and waste management infrastructure as well as photovoltaic and energy projects in the city and surrounding area require compensation measures and, in part, species protection CEF or FCS measures.
