Compensation in Bremen

Assessment under BNatSchG / BremNatG

At around 419 square kilometres, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen is the smallest federal state and Germany's only two-city state. It consists of the city municipalities of Bremen and Bremerhaven, which are separated from one another by Lower Saxon territory. There are no districts or administrative regions. It is shaped by the Weser with its marshes, remnants of the Geest, and its proximity to the North Sea coast and the Wadden Sea near Bremerhaven.

In Bremen, statutory nature-conservation compensation is governed by §§ 13 to 18 BNatSchG in conjunction with the Bremen Nature Conservation Act. There is no dedicated Eco-Account Ordinance with fixed statewide eco-points. The assessment of impact and compensation follows the Guidance on the Application of the Impact Mitigation Regulation in the State of Bremen, which creates a uniform basis for assessment in specialist planning and urban land-use planning.

greeNature allocates your project to the relevant assessment and provides suitable compensation areas and compensation measures. The state's highest nature conservation authority maintains a register of all compensation areas, which serves as the basis for approval.
